The Project:
The CLforJava Open-Source Project is a long-running effort supported by the College of Charleston's Computer Science Department. Designed by
Professor Jerry Boetje (pronounced boo-CHEE), the project is the core of the Software Engineering course where students combine their skills and
book-learning to join an engineering team advancing the development of a new implementation of Common Lisp.
Brief History:
Jerry Boetje came to Charleston with the idea of the CLforJava project in 2002 and it was put into motion in the summer of 2003 as a student
project for the Software Engineering class at the time. Since then over 160 students as well as various individuals outside the college have
contributed to its continued development.
Our Goal:
This project's aim is to create a new implementation of CommonLisp Version 2 written entirely in Java and CommonLisp. This implementation
will compile interactive and file-based CommonLisp to Java byte-codes and be fully and transparently interoperable with Java.
Current Status:
The project is in its late stages of development, and just about ready to be taken to full scale public open source.
Preparation is in place to have it exhibited at the International Lisp Conference on March 24th.
